Keenan's Photography

East Coast 2012+

Departed Miami Beach on May 3rd and took Muddy Waters up to the Florida-Georgia border. Joined in Fernandina Beach by Pappy, who crewed to Charleston, S.C. Then sailed Muddy Waters to the Chesapeake, a side trip up the Potomac to Washington, D.C. and then to Annapolis where Muddy Waters waited for the next weather window for the Atlantic Ocean run off the New Jersey coast. Arrived Long Island Sound on June 20th and met Jennifer and kids in Westport, CT. Cruised up New England coast all the way to the Penobscot Bay in Maine for reunions on both sides of the family! We weighed anchor end of July and are now we’re on our way back down the coast toward the Chesapeake. We’ll keep Muddy Waters somewhere in that neighborhood and then bring the boat back to Miami around the end of hurricane season.

School Photography Projects+

These are some of the photos I’ve taken in my photography class at the Miami Arts Charter school.

New England Coastline+

I don’t have any pictures in this album yet, but this is where I’ll put the photos I take as we cruise along the New England coastline this summer aboard Muddy Waters.

Keenan’s Great Loop Photos+

These are some of my favorite pictures I took from our year of living aboard our trawler Muddy Waters. They’re in chronological order and are from the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and along the Great Loop. I also included a few from Washington state, which is where we bought our boat. My dad, grandfather and I cruised out there for a week.

Great Loop Highlights 2011+

These are just a few highlight photos from our travels on the Great Loop in 2011. Look in each month’s album for lots more great photos from our trip.

December 2011+

These are photos beginning in St. Petersburg, Florida. We then cruised to Sarasota, anchored-out near Cayo Costa, traveled to Naples, anchored out in Little Shark River in the Everglades, then crossed our wake in Marathon in the Florida Keys.

November 2011+

Our November photos include those from a side-trip to Chattanooga up the Tennessee River and then our journey back down the last stretch of the Tenn-Tom River towards Mobile AL and into the Panhandle, followed by the West Coast of Florida.

October 2011+

These photos cover our trip from Chicago down the Illinois River, then to the Mississippi, the Ohio, the Cumberland and the Tennessee Rivers.

September 2011+

Photos from Michigan’s sunset coast starting in Grand Haven and then our travels all the way to Chicago.

August 2011+

Cruising the Georgian Bay and onward through the North Channel to finish up our tour of Canada before heading back down to the United States through northern Lake Huron and then down the eastern side of Lake Michigan toward Chicago.

July 2011+

We spent July 4th in Sackets Harbor, NY and watched fireworks from a War of 1812 battlefield. Then we made for Kingston, Ontario and met friends and drove to Ottawa. Then onward toward the Trent-Severn Canal toward the Georgian Bay and North Channel.

June 2011+

We left Annapolis and the Samway cousins and headed to Baltimore. Lots of fun visiting with more of Michael’s cousins and friends and also seeing places from Jen’s childhood.

May 2011, Part 2+

Seems we reached our limit of photos per album, so we’re starting-up a new one here that begins with our trip to Norfolk, Virginia and goes through our stay in Annapolis.

May 2011, Part 1+

We arrived in Myrtle Beach to welcome the new month and have moved north through South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and are now cruising on the Chesapeake Bay.

April 2011+

We arrived at Four Fish Marina the last week of March and had fun-filled visits from grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. We re-stocked our provisions inventory, enjoyed time with visitors, and completed a few boat projects. Next, we move north on the ICW.

March 2011+

We departed Georgetown in the Southern Exumas on March first and traveled north up the island chain, stopping at a few beautiful spots, then crossed over to southern Eleuthera where we’d planned to journey north on our way to the Abacos. We didn’t get a window to travel to the Abacos so we moved south and west to Nassau then Bimini before heading back home.

February 2011+

We left Miami behind on January 31st and headed across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas to explore the Exumas. More gorgeous sunrises and sunsets awaited us in addition to pirate lore, swimming pigs and crystal clear waters. What a treat!

January 2011+

These photos include our departure from Miami, Key Biscayne, underway to the Florida Keys, Marathon, Key West, visitors onboard, Crane Point Nature Center, Turtle Rescue Hospital, Bahia Honda State Park, Fuel Day, Manatee visit, and water-play.

Inside Tour of Muddy Waters+

For those of you unable to join us onboard for a tour before we departed, here’s your chance to see how we’re living. It really is spacious, and just like our home in Miami, we like to keep it as neat and clutter-free as possible! A place for everything and everything in its place. Everyone has his or her own space and clean-up is pretty simple – open a drawer, put it (hide!) away, secure the drawer, viola!

Bon Voyage Party, December 2010+

The Thursday evening before we left Miami Beach, we hosted the family aboard Muddy Waters for a send-off party, with complimentary catering by Sima and Homa. It was a beautiful night, with lots of cheers, toasts and laughter. Thanks to everyone!

Visitors Onboard in 2010+

Here are some photos of our visitors aboard Muddy Waters before we set sail.

Stuart to Miami, November 2010+

We traveled from Jensen Beach to Lake Worth in the ICW, anchored overnight, then traveled offshore the following day to Miami Beach. Dennis Fox, former owner of our boat and teacher extraordinaire, accompanied us through the ICW. Michael Doherty, and son Matthew, joined us for the entire trip, giving great assistance and making for lots of fun memories.

Trawler Training, Fall 2010+

Keenan and Michael spent a few days with Captains Chris & Alyse Caldwell going from stem to stern on Muddy Waters and learning its systems. The entire family spent a weekend aboard with Captains Chris & Alyse for some good old-fashioned learning and fun.

Delivery & Maintenance, Fall 2010+

Muddy Waters arrived in Florida on September 11th after transiting the Panama Canal aboard a large ship. Captain Chris Caldwell and I ran the boat from Ft. Lauderdale to Riviera Beach, arriving around 10 pm. The next day we left early and arrived in Jensen Beach around 1 pm. We hauled-out the boat with the able assistance of the crew at Four Fish Marina. Four Fish, run by John Fels, would be Muddy Waters’ home for the next two and a half months.

Maiden Voyage, Summer 2010+

Our trip to beautiful Bellingham, Washington where we purchased our boat from Dennis and Julie Fox. Pappy, Keenan, and Michael spent a few days aboard Muddy Waters (then called the Julie K) cruising the San Juan Islands, between Washington state and Vancouver Island. A local boater and captain, Tom Selman, joined us and gave us lots of trawlering tips, and we shared boat loads of laughs and ate lots of Rocket Donuts.

Daria’s Jewelry+

My name is Daria Samway and I’m twelve years old. Here are some pictures of the jewelry I made on our trip last year. I made a lot more things, but I sold them or gave them away as presents before taking pictures. I’ve been making jewelry for about a year. I hope you enjoy my jewelry designs.
